Bellingham has become one of the most sought-after midfielders in the world after excelling in the Bundesliga with Dortmund.
However, Robson was convinced that the England international would make his career at Manchester United after meeting him several years ago.
Robson talks about how United missed out on the rising star the sun: ‘I watched him closely as he played against City.

Bellingham is wanted by Chelsea owner Todd Boehle – who spent £271m this summer
You can see how far he has come since we thought we put him at Manchester United two years ago.
“Unfortunately for us, he decided to move to Germany,” Robson added. We thought we had it more or less.
“Myself, Sir Alex and Eric Cantona all met him with his mother and father at Carrington and after that meeting we thought he would come to us.”
Robson also supported the 19-year-old to play the title role for England at the World Cup in Qatar.
He praised Bellingham’s “anticipation” and determination to win the ball, but said the youngster must “keep his feet on the ground” to reach his full potential.

However, he will have to take the fight to Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag (right)
“He has great anticipation – as we saw in the way he rushed into the box to clear his header,” said Robson. But he won a lot of battles, too.
Many people think of him as a somewhat offensive midfielder, but he can do the other side of him too. Its size is good. He’s very fast and actually has a little bit of everything about him.
What he has to do, of course, is keep his feet on the ground and work hard to be his best. But you can see why he has become such a big target in the market because he is such a talent.
“And if he continues to perform as he did against City, it will be a huge part of England’s World Cup bid.”

New United boss Erik Ten Hag is said to be interested in signing Bellingham during the upcoming summer transfer window.
However, Chelsea are also looking to snap up Bellingham ahead of the 2023-2024 campaign.
Boehly – who has spent £271m on new signings this summer – is said to be a huge fan of the England international and interested in his services.
Liverpool also identified the Borussia Dortmund star as the key piece in the puzzle of Jurgen Klopp’s midfield.
