How many steps a day can extend your life? Plus, a quick way to get the baby to stop crying and more health news | Health, medicine and fitness

Taking 10,000 steps a day is often touted as a good way to maintain fitness levels. Previously, researchers reported a lower risk of dementia, heart disease, cancer, and death among those who achieve 10,000 steps per day.

How many steps a day prolong your life?

There’s an easy way to lower your risk of dementia, heart disease, and cancer: start walking.

New research confirms that getting those 10,000 steps per day makes a real difference, but less than that will pay off big. No matter how many times you log in, increase your frequency to get the most benefit.

The researchers found that for every 2,000 steps you take, up to 10,000 per day, your risk of early death decreases by between 8% and 11%.

The trend of “slowing down” is causing people to paint their faces with fat

To slug or not? That is the question for the millions of TikTok users, who turn to the social media giant for tips and information on what amounts to the DIY skincare phenomenon.

Slugging involves applying some type of sealing agent — such as Vaseline or another petroleum-based ointment — to the skin.

What is the problem in that? New research warns that the majority of TikTok posts that focus on the practice of wrinkle reduction are medically unreliable, maximizing the benefits while minimizing the risks.

Breathing polluted air can cause teens to miss a heartbeat

A new study shows that air pollution may cause arrhythmias in healthy teens within two hours of exposure.

Arrhythmia, or arrhythmia, occurs when the heart’s electrical impulses do not work properly. Symptoms may include heart palpitations, chest pain, fainting or dizziness. Some cases of arrhythmia increase a teen’s chances of sudden cardiac death or heart disease later on, researchers said.

“The main take-home message for teens is that air pollution can have severe cardiac outcomes and even death, [even if] “They’re usually pretty healthy,” said study author Fan Hee, an instructor in public health sciences at Penn State College of Medicine.

What is the best position to help the baby to stop crying?

A new study gives parents what seems like a miraculous gift: a simple, free technique that only takes 13 minutes to put preemies to sleep.

Researchers in Japan found that five minutes of walking while holding infants soothed newborns, while another eight minutes of sitting while holding sleeping babies made the transition to a crib smooth.

The team studied the sedation process using a baby ECG and video cameras to compare changes in heart rate and behavior as 21 mothers did some common activities to calm babies.

The World Health Organization says the end of the epidemic may be near

The World Health Organization leader announced on Wednesday that the end of the COVID-19 pandemic is imminent, with deaths reaching their lowest level worldwide since the novel coronavirus began spreading in March 2020.

However, the death rate is relatively stable and has not yet reached its lowest level in the United States, experts note.

The World Health Organization reported that around 11,000 people worldwide died from COVID during the week of September 5 through September 11, which is a 22% decrease from the previous week.
