Tuesday morning saw an official announcement from the Netherlands regarding Sven Putman.
The Dutch national team’s official website released a statement (see below) after the Newcastle United defender had contact with his international coach.
Erwin van de Loy is the Netherlands under-21 coach and has been told by Sven Putman that he will not be joining them at the team meeting this week.
The statement said Sven Putman wanted to focus solely on preparing for the upcoming Newcastle United matches, which start 11 days after the trip to Fulham.
Experience so far has shown that, like Rafa Benitez, Eddie Howe often prefers to start with players he has been able to work with during the international break, when club football takes off again.
Dan Byrne got the nod ahead of Sven Putman on Saturday against Bournemouth and I think if the Dutch defender had been out of the NUFC training ground for most of these days before the Fulham away game, there would be little chance of Putman being forced to. His way back to the next Newcastle match.
So far, Sven Putman has looked excellent, starting four games in the Premier League and as a sophomore in another. In three of the five matches he’s played, Newcastle have kept three clean sheets and only accepted that excellent strike from distance against Wolverhampton when Willock could/should have done better in terms of blocking the shot.
The exception was a 3-3 draw against Manchester And they’ve been scoring for fun this season, scoring 26 goals in the other eight games they’ve played.
You can’t blame Sven Putman for prioritizing football at his new club at this time in his career.
Despite having played a lot of first-team football at such a young age, and a key figure at the 20-year-old when he helped Lille win the Ligue 1 and then excel in the Premier League, Sven Putman hasn’t played a minute for the Dutch first team. . In fact, apart from one call in November 2020, he was never included in the top group.
Holland should have some good depth in the middle of the defense if they think they don’t need to be included Newcastle Defender at this moment in time.
I have no doubt that if it came to a senior team call this month, Sven Putman wouldn’t quit now. However, with still not being included in what appears to be a key team (the last before the first World Cup) this month, the NUFC player appears to be ruling out any remote chance of going to Qatar. So instead, he is now looking to excel with his club and look to make his way to future Dutch teams, where they will then prepare for the next Euro after Qatar.
The player’s disappointment at the moment, but there is almost certainly good news for Newcastle United that you should consider.
A player with less risk of injury/fatigue due to the World Cup and someone with a point to prove in club football, to attract the attention of the national group in the future.
