Manchester United winger Facundo Pellistri has been praised by his Uruguayan teammate Ronald Araujo for his performances among some of Europe’s elite.
Winger Belistry moved to Old Trafford in the 2020 summer transfer window after United’s failed pursuit of Jadon Sancho. The 20-year-old joined forces with Amad Diallo, and both have achieved varying degrees of success.
This season, Emad went on loan to Sunderland after spending the second half of last season at Rangers.
Pelistri was at Alaves last season, but an ankle injury means he hasn’t secured another away transfer. Furthermore, he has yet to play a single minute with coach Erik Ten Hag this season.
However, Pelistree made his last Uruguay squad ahead of the World Cup campaign.
And according to Barcelona defender Araujo, the young player is the player that surprised him the most, amid a host of talents that emerged during the nation’s international break.
“I think Facundo Pellistri is a surprise,” Araujo said. Country. “Obviously we know the quality that Fede Valverde gave, [Rodrigo] Bentancourt, Darwin [Nunez] You have.
“We all know the quality they have. But Facundo Pelestry surprised me a little bit, especially since he wasn’t playing.”
But Araujo insisted that Pelistry did not fall His levels with Uruguay despite not playing for Manchester United.
“And more than that, because of the level he showed in the national team, he was amazing,” Araujo said. Moreover, we understood each other very well on the right wing. Facundo was more than surprised, yes.”
Pelistree is waiting for Manchester United’s opportunity
Pelistree has not yet played for Manchester United’s first team, but has made eight appearances elsewhere with the club.
Six matches of the Premier League 2 resulted in two goals and one assist, while he added a goal in the English Football League Cup in December 2020.
Other than that, Pelistree is still waiting for his chance with the first team under Ten Hag.
And after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked, those are now two coaches the winger has struggled to settle for.
On top of that, it remains unclear when Pelistree will get his chance at Old Trafford.
Wing needs another loan spell
The ankle injury he suffered in pre-season of course didn’t do him any good. But, Ten Hag started to get the best out of Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho up front.
Furthermore, the signing of Anthony from Ajax for £84m is also looking to impress Tin Hag after his arrival.
Behind this trio, there are other options, Anthony Elanga and Anthony Martial. This means that Pellistri is the way to the bottom of the click order.
It will likely take another loan spell for him to try to make his mark at Old Trafford.
But, it’s a long wait between now and January for him to move away. In the meantime, he should seize the opportunity with Uruguay as often as he can and remind Manchester United of his talent.
Pellistri may also take part in the World Cup, which could see his stock surge further and more teams excited about the loan deal in January.
But given United’s current options, Pelistree will have to do a lot more to find first-team minutes.
