ABAYA DU MATHAN He took a step back in the right direction when he finished third in Worcester last week, and arguably deserves an extra credit after trying to mix it up with the booming winner. He can line up by the same mark today and this is a weaker competition in which he should take a lot of hits if he builds on his recent efforts after only five days of rest.

Galic He took advantage of a good opportunity to reclaim the winning streak in this course and the distance in July, staying well to drive home in close proximity. The official winning margin was long and runners-up Hironord reopened today with better terms of 4lbs. It’s unlikely there will be much between the pair again, but Gaulois got the vote for his third hit of the summer.

Valentino He showed improved form to resume winning this course and distance in May, running up late to get the verdict with a neck. This would be tougher after the 4 pounds higher in weights, but it’s still relatively low mileage and is out of the question that he might have more effort in the closet. In a wide open competition despite the small pitch, Valentino is fond of winning four of his last five starts.

Percy’s word Formed encouragingly after an eight-week break when he was third at Fontwell last time out, he held on to his task well to defeat less than a length. This model sets the standard in this lineup by a wide margin, so he must be able to take advantage of a drop in grade to land his fourth career success at the cost of hurdles.

Beautiful NA BANN He did his best in his career to get off the mark at Fontwell last month, and he responded well to pressure to drive closer to home. She won a length with little on hand, and the manner of that win suggests she’s kept handling well from just the 2-pound mark above. She ranked a solid pick to follow Neil Mulholland, who has his team in good health (five winners from 23 sprinters in the last 14 days).

coal stock He had another healthy race when he finished third in Stratford on Saturday, maintaining a fine performance to pass the post just three lengths behind the winner. That would be a quicker-than-ideal turnaround, but he’s clearly in a good sign, and the drop in grade provides him an excellent opportunity to add to his victory over this course and distance in August.

Bobby socks He once again showed fair form when he was last seen finishing second at Hereford in April, ultimately proving no match for the winner but he stuck to his task well to get rid of the rest. This model puts him in the right mix here and his scope for further improvement after only two starts identifies him as the one to beat in the end.
