Tony and Der Shaw were named in the England squad as the injured Pickford and Rashford missed the match

England coach Gareth Southgate has called up Evan Toni for the first time ahead of the upcoming international break.

The Three Lions face Italy at San Siro on September 23 before hosting Germany three days later.

Winners and losers: The Liverpool reserve and Chelsea coach shined with the faltering defense of Porto, Conte and Chelsea in Barcelona

It is the last international break before the World Cup finals in Qatar, where England meet Iran, Wales and the United States in Group B.

There was no real sudden omission from the 28-man squad to face Germany and Italy.

Most notably, Brentford striker Tony received his first call-up, and if he plays, He will become the first PES player to represent England since 1939.

The 26-year-old striker has been fantastic in the Premier League, scoring 12 goals last season.

He has five out of six this season and has been rewarded with his first call-up for his country.

Tottenham Hotspur defender Eric Dier has returned to the England squad for the first time since March 2021.

He did not participate in the World Cup qualifiers against San Marino, Albania and Poland, which means that his last appearance with his country was against Iceland in November 2020.

Dyer has thrived since Antonio Conte replaced Nuno Espirito Santo at Tottenham and deserves his chance to impress Southgate ahead of this winter’s World Cup.

Manchester United’s left-back Luke Shaw shined, despite not being a favorite at club level.

The summer signature Tyrrell Malacia quickly established himself as the first choice for Eric Ten Hag for Shaw’s position.

The 27-year-old has not played for United since being substituted in the first half of his side’s 4-0 defeat to Brentford on August 13.

Southampton defender Kyle Walker Peters and Crystal Palace’s Terek Mitchell may be upset that they were not selected over Shaw – who scored for England in their Euro 2020 final defeat to Italy.

Shaw was joined in the England squad by fellow Red Devils Harry Maguire, who also struggled to get a consistent match time under Ten Hag.

And there are two Serie A stars, Tammy Abraham of Roma and Fikayo Tomori of Milan, who are named in the squad.

Tony is the only player who could make his England debut this month, but several single-digit players have been called up.

These players are West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen and Crystal Palace’s Mark Goey, the three goalkeepers Nick Pope (Newcastle United), Aaron Ramsdale (Arsenal) and Dean Henderson (Nottingham Forest, loaned from Manchester United), in addition to Tomori.

Southgate’s first-choice goalkeeper Jordan Pickford missed through injury, giving Bob, Ramsdale or Henderson a chance to impress.
